How To Wear A Velvet Blazer
A velvet blazer can go a long way this winter. It can easy add luxury and warmth to any outfit. So, how to wear this 80′s throwback? First, keep the cut and color classic. Opt for a fitted blazer that hits at the top of hip. This will be the most flattering and modern choice. Also, look for a cut that looks good buttoned up. If it is too tight across the chest, it will look like you are wearing a blazer from the back of your closet. As for the color, choose black, navy, grey, or plum. These colors can be used as neutrals and will be a better investment then a bright red velvet choice (which kind of screams Austin Powers).
How To Wear A Velvet Blazer
Topping Off Jeans
A cute fitted velvet blazer with a silk cream top and skinny dark wash jeans will look pulled together and office-appropriate. For day, stick with flats but for evening add a pair of snakeskin platforms. Make sure the top under your blazer is loose and lightweight. Adding bulk under the blazer will look sloppy.
Over A Ruffled or Silk Dress
Do you have a light colored dress hanging in your closet that you think is too revealing? Throw a velvet jacket on it (a la J.Crew) and it instantly becomes daily appropriate.
With Wide Leg Trousers
For a work-appropriate look that is more uptown, add a velvet blazer to a wide-leg cuffed trouser and simple tank. Keep the blazer unbuttoned for a men’s wear inspired look.
Over Your LBD
For those endless holiday parties, take your simple black dress, add a black velvet blazer and a statement necklace and voila, you have a new go-to party look.
Pleated Skirt
Add a velvet blazer to a lady-like pleated skirt and add dimension to an otherwise conservative look. Close the jacket and add a skinny belt to cinch and flatter curves.
